I'm kind of on a Beatles kick right now... Wow, when did I write that? Yeah, I think it's more than a kick.

Funny how I keep coming back to this website soon enough after you release an episode for it to be on the front page.
This was a good episode; I think it was better than the last, with an only slightly ambiguous ending that's a lot more fitting. The animation and background design is a lot more polish and interesting, too. Good work.

First the good: The art was well drawn and fairly well-colored. The hacker was a good touch, too.
But the animation was minimal, mainly a kind of South Park style restricted movement, with almost no adherence to physics (cartoon or "real"). Making all the body parts separate pieces and just using tweening didn't help. The front view shot of Snake moving down the hallway didn't say "crawling", it said "floating while cracking knucles." Probably not what you were going for there.
And the voice acting. The girl wasn't too bad, but YOU CAN NOT ACT. Saying everything through clenched teeth does not make it more dramatic; it just makes you harder to understand. You also seem to have no idea what a lot of the lines mean, because you consistely say them with the wrong emphasis and/or tone of voice.
The stone in the tunnel doesn't move at the same speed as the floor and rest of the tunnel, either. That kind of bothered me.

These were all clearly made by good artists as well as animators. Very nice multi-artist flash.

Not as hilarious as the first -- it'd be hard to top that, especially in the same series -- but I'd say this is at least as great. Finally, you've made an episode that matches the original in terms of the incredulity induced in the viewer.
I assume that what he says to the water is in response to the questions of the guy at the end, right?

Wow, this is one of the classics of animutation. That's not a contradiction, is it?
Despite its age, this movie is better than a lot of other animutations, and I've seen some very bad ones. You mixed it up enough to keep it interesting -- and the choice of song definitely helped. Heh, Dutch is the perfect language for this, isn't it?

Jesus.
First, I have to request you get a sound designer or something. Your use of sound effects (or lack thereof -- silence can not be overused) could be much stronger and more dramatic, not to mention your choice of sounds.
The only other major criticism I can offer is that I hope these clips were all created for explicit use in an actual movie. It would be almost criminal if they simply assembled for this trailer and never really put to use.
But that was incredible.
You have an amazing grasp of animation. The jerks and pauses between fluid motion all come together to make solid movement sequences. The tweened stuff, especially in the beginning, isn't nearly as smooth, which is kind of odd considering smoothness is the main thing tweening offers. I'm sure all those seperate body parts are hard to align properly, let alone animate and rotate and keep it still looking human, but in any case they look like the kind of problems that will improve simply with practice.
I appreciate your inclusion of facial features in this animation -- they add great focus to the action scenes right when they're needed most. In sections with less movement they don't add much at all, the emotions seem pretty neutral, which may be intentional for this trailer, but again I think you'll get better at it with time.
Do not stop animating. That is an order.
Thank you.
(Didja ever get in touch with Tom or Wade about whatever happened to the Llama Magic series?)

"I don't think I've seen a flash like this before"
I really liked your use of images and animations cut from the game and used like sprites. The technical execution of that was pretty rough, though -- the perspective on the cars was usually off, as was their speed -- come on, a car moving towards the camera at constant speed appears to accelerate.
The static was a good idea, giving an appearance of motion to almost completely static backgrounds, but I'd say it looked too uniform and man-made -- you made it in something like Photoshop, right? Plus you left it out of the last half of the movie, where it could at least attempt to hide the low resolution of the video clips.

"Finally a well-animated game movie"
Wow, this movie was really well made. You had some of the best use of tweening I've seen, used for small details and not being in-your-face about it. The animations were quite good, since you used sinusoidal cycles instead of parabolic, or worse, linear. You could show weight a bit more solidly in your animations, but at least you're on the right path -- and I'm glad you chose a high frame rate. About the only one I didn't like was Bowser's talking animation -- it usually didn't sync very well to the speech.
Speaking of that, the speech of Donkey Kong and Bowser were usually hard to understand. The use of midi wasn't too successful, either; maybe try better instrument patches?
The movie started out slow, but got better as it went on; I liked the stuff in the middle, but that flower power thing was kind of annoying. It was obviously a reference to something, but I don't know what, and it was too long anyway.
I'll look forward to the next in this series.

You actually made a drawn stick figure movie with good animation and physics. That's a great start, for one thing -- way too many movies that are more graphically complex have far less in that respect.
I like the simple story and the rearranging scenery. About the only think that didn't work was some of the camera movements -- sometimes the ground line looked static, or didn't move fast enough, when the scene was supposed to be scrolling in a certain direction.
Author's Response:
Oh you're a perceptive guy - I didn't even bother to tween the floor this way or that some of the time, since it 'kinda' looked like it was moving anyway! I'm glad you liked it anyway, thanks for the helpful review.

This is a lot better than I expected. The animation is good, including the movement and physics. The acting could be better, but the voices are clear and understandable.
I liked some of the jokes, but not all. Humor is certainly an area you could improve in. Having a bit more happen in an episode would be good, too. Anyway, I hope the third will be as much better than this as this was than the first.
